I think Terms and Conditions are the way to avoid this in the first place. I ask for 25% in advance on restoration jobs (unless theres a lot of materials involved) and 50% on cabinetmaking. The rest is payable on collection or delivery. This applies to all private and commercial customers. The only time i've had a problem was ewhen i haven't stuck to my own terms, and i suppose it served me right! If the client can't or won't pay a deposit what makes you think they'll pay the final invoice?
