Following on from the great success of Jim Broughton’s colouring day held in the summer 2015. Jim, with the assistance of his colleague Mark Pargeter of Buscot Antiques will be holding a colouring clinic on 23rd April 2016.
The aim of the day will be for students to bring along a small project for finishing. Jim and Mark will then go from bench to bench, advising / demonstrating, how to use various techniques and finishing products to achieve a high standard of finishing.
It is important that all cabinet work, carving off and removal of all glue is done before hand, so we can concentrate on just finishing.
If you have your own colouring kit, please do bring this along. Jim is always interested to see what other people use and believes that learning is a two way street.
Over a ten year period, Jim used to teach on a part time basis, at what was the old Rycotewood College in Thame Oxfordshire. He found, by far the best way of passing on the necessary skills was to quite literally let the students get stuck in and make the mistakes. Even if you have to wash it all off again. In the words of his old mentor, “nothing is ever wasted”!
The day will be open to all levels of ability and experience. To all BAFRA members and also the general public.
The day will run from 10.00 am to 4.30 pm and you will need to bring your own lunch. The cost to BAFRA Accredited members is free, all other membership categories £10 with £50.00 for members of the public.
Booking should be made through Head Office at: 18 Merry Lane, Sansaw Heath, Nr Shrewsbury, Shropshire SY4 3JS. T: 01939 210826 E: [email protected]
