“When a client first approached him about the restoration of an unusual 17th century English cabinet, BAFRA member Jim Broughton could not have known that he would soon be engaged not only on a museum quality conservation project, but also in major research which has taken him the breadth of the country and beyond.
The cabinet is veneered in cocuswood, and was determined to date from the 1660s, one of the earliest known examples of English veneered cabinet-work. Jim Broughton’s and Philip Solomons’s research into early restoration cabinet-making is soon to be published. This is an account of the restoration of the cocuswood cabinet.”
